The College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University needed to refresh its position as an educator of cultural leaders. To assist a new dean in realizing her goals, we worked with faculty, staff and students to define their mission, vision and values. We then translated this strategy into a brand personality, identity system and website.

Brand toolVPA’s practice is exciting, forceful, responsive and community-centered. It insists that people not only take a critical view of the world, but also that they act on this view. To inspire audiences to take action, VPA expresses ideas through the media of the visual and performing arts.

Brand toolBefore we developed the brand strategy, we examined the college holistically. Consulting with the Dean, Assistant Dean for Recruitment and Admissions and the Director of Communications, we designed an immersion process that encouraged faculty, staff and students to share their perspectives and prepare them to be ambassadors for the new brand.
